A review of Scottish Daily Mail by Allan Watson written on Sunday 4th of December 2011
I have been a reader of the Scottish Daily and The Scottish Mail on Sunday for a number of years.
Your political coverage over the years has moved from the biased to the rabid in respect of the SNP.
Whilst you have every right to support the union and highlight what you perceive to be the repercussions of the possible breakup of the UK as result of independence, you make no attempt to balance your views with the counter arguments.
Your reporting is so one sided that it borders on the farcical. You make no attempt to highlight the good things that the SNP government has done for Scotland over the last few years, and there have been some good things. However you are quick to criticise their failures, and of course there are failures.
Of course I am an SNP supporter and always have been. I am not gullable enough to suggest that everything that they do is right because it isn't. I do however like to hear the facts of any arguments presented by BOTH sides. Once I have heard them I then make up my mind on the issue.
The Mail is a really good paper and contains lots of good stories and has some excellent reporting, however political coverage on the Scottish scene is poor, biased, unbalanced and I no longer bother to read it. Its like a throwback to the days of state controlled PRAVDA in the old Soviet era.
For political coverage in Scotland I go to other sources who may still support the retention of the Union but at least they give me both sides of the argument.
For people like me all you do is harden my attitude against what your editorial masters are trying to dictate to the Scottish public. We are not stupid. Just give us BOTH sides of the argument in a fair and balanced manner and allow us the freedom to make up our own minds on the issues instead of trying to brain wash us.
As an unrelated afterthought why do you give the weather forecast for the towns and cities in the UK including the capital cities of N.Ireland, Wales and England but fail to give the forecast for Scotlands capital city, Edinburgh????
