A review of YMCA (Tollcross) by Tom Macfadyen written on Monday 26th of December 2011
It's season 51/52 or 52/53?
Tollcross YM clear the board, winning the league, the Glasgow Cup and the YMCA Scottish Cup. The league was won with 22 wins out of 22 games and the league presentation was made by the first Scotland player to achieve 50 caps, Rangers right back / centre half, George Young.
My father, George Macfadyen played in this team 51/53 as well as after National Service, restarting season 55/56 until 56/57. Although the old grey matter may be suffering, he still remembers some of Tollcross's great players names:
George Carmichael
Len Buckley
Charlie Millar
Jonny Moffat, right half
Peter Meekin, outside left
Andy Meekin, right back
Jonny Hill
Malky McDonald, right back
Jimmy McHarg
Billy Smith - great ballplayer but wouldn't heed the ba, incase a hair fell out of place.
Terry Noon
George McArthur
Bobby Carmichael - signed for Rangers
Bobby Williamson, goalkeeper
We would love to glean some information that anyone or the YM themselves have about these times and these people. I can be contacted directly at tom.macfadyen@lineone.net
