A review of The Clachan Bar by Daniel Bass written on Thursday 17th of May 2012
I walked into The Clachan and made my way to the bar in the Lounge area. A mixed race girl with a broad Glaswegian accent served me. She amused me as she was a bit of a nippy sweety but I like that about Glasgow pubs. I ordered up the local Lager - Tennents. I couldn't believe it when I only got £2.15 back from my crisp £5 note. I asked the girl if this was right. "Aye! That's wit it is!" she exclaimed. At this point a plump chap with silver hair emerged from a cupboard which seperated the Lounge and The Bar. I assume he was the charge-hand as he was surveying the pub much like a Lion does the Jungle. The pint itself was decent enough but the true character of the pub was not discovered until it became busier and the characters started to come in. One quiet man with a bag of shopping kept ordering two half pints. I found this amusing and as I pondered why he didn't just buy a pint I realised there was a small dog at my feet. Lovely wee thing. All in all, the Clachan was great! As mentioned elsewhere there is a bookmakers above the pub which was handy. The pub itself was spotlessly clean. The only downfall was the prices although the spirits were cheaper than I expected.
A 4 out of 5 from me. Next time I come to Glasgow I'll be back in!.
