A review of Twechar Miners Welfare & Social Club by John Andrews written on Monday 9th of December 2013
My name is John Andrews. I was born and brought up in Twechar , but left there in 1954. I played billiards getting a cue from Mrs Anderson the hall keepers wife. I think there was 3 tables. My grandparents held there wedding reception there in 1905. The coal companies free treats were held in the hall. We received 3 new pennies in a pay packet, an orange and an apple, and a bag of sticky buns. we always took our tinnies to get scalding hot tea. .in the billiard room there was picture taken in 1918 or 1919 showing all the Twechar men who were in the serves some in uniform such as Captain Filshill. unfortunately when the hall was being refurnished probably in the 1960s it would appears that that important part of Twechar was destroyed.
