A review of Scottish Daily Mail by Jim Adamson written on Thursday 3rd of April 2014
Rob Robertson's item about the 'splash' dropped ball reminds me that a great many 'tries' should actually be disallowed because it's the player's elbow that touches the ground not the ball but the ref allows it anyway altho he usually can't see the offence. There was an England 'try' allowed in the 2013 6-nations when the player had the ball under his RIGHT arm, dived over the line onto his LEFT side, rolled onto his back and threw the ball in the air - the ball was never touched down at all but the ref allowed it - I seem to have been the only person in the world to notice it, at least I haven't heard anyone on earth mention it. I remember years ago in an international, the ref disallowed a try because the player touched the ball down lightly without applying pressure, which apparently is what's in the rules. Have the rules changed or what that now a try can be given when the ball doesn't even touch the ground? Also players are still getting away with putting the ball squint into the scrum!.
