A review of Caledonian Travel by Jenny and Mary Doll written on Sunday 11th of May 2014
Having recently travelled with Caledonian Travel to the Dutch Fields I would like to make some comments.
My companion and I had never been on a coach tour before so were looking forward to our adventure. The bus was comfortable stops were adequate as there were a few elderly and infirm passengers. The driver was very funny so no complaints on that side.Having reached Hull we were taken over by National holidays where the bus driver was efficient although needed instructions on using his mike ( Steve ). The ferry crossing was excellent food exceptional considering the ship was full. Cabin not the best but that was our mistake should have paid the extra to get a larger one.
We disembarged easily and were on our way to the destination. Could have done with some information along the way apart from being told that someone had sky dived off a building, even some background music would have been fine.
When we arrived at the hotel Lakeland check in was very organised. We had a ground floor room with views of the yachts. The room was very tired looking in need of freshening up hangers in wardrobe were two shaky shelf brackets? but enough shelves to place your clothes on.Having had a guest house myself wee things I suppose I noticed. The beds had good mattressess and pillows were comfy. We had to ask for extra towels and a bath mat as only one towel each (threadbare) was supplied. We had two fresh towels each morning after that but should have had that anyway.I wont go on and on but really think the company needs to make an unannounced visit and stay for a couple of days to view and taste the awful food that is put infront of you at both breakfast and evening meal I am surprised that no one was ill.Maybe the free bar killed off all the germs as everyone made full use of this, saying that a few of the guests got taxi's into Town for their evening meal it was that bad. my friend and I always had a nice lunch as we knew what to expect at night.
The daily trips are good and well worth the visits. Was so glad that we went as the gardens were more than we expected. The hotel was the only speck in the trip so please check it out and find another for your guests I certainly wouldn't recommend this trip to my friends unless the hotel was a different one..
