A review of Provanhall Primary School by David Warren written on Monday 1st of August 2016
I attended Provanhall Primary School from 1959-1961 and I have great memories of those days. My teacher was Mrs Henderson, an elegant lady with red hair and a great teacher. School dinners in those days were great especially the caramel cake and custard. I was a dinner monitor and I got second helpings.
Day trips were another treat, with packed lunches on a bus, including the tradition scotch pie.
The school leaving dance when I was 12 years old gave me the chance to wear long trousers for the first time, along with my first pair of "semi" winkle picker shoes.
I remember taking a box of Dairy Milk chocolates that night for my girlfriend, Doreen Given.
Having come from the old tenement slums of Bridgeton and into the country, we kids thought that we were in paradise then. Great days !.
