A review of St Francis Nursing Home by Elizabeth Savage written on Wednesday 23rd of May 2018
At my age of 38 in 1985 I was advised by my GP that my 4th child combined with my age was a dangerous pregnancy and was strongly recommended not to give birth in St Francis However I was determined otherwise. I had my last child in the GP unit in Greenock and had to have a course of iron injections because of low blood and was successfully treated by my GP but as this unit was closed soon after I felt that 15yrs on I wanted the care that St Francis offered l can only say the care was superb and I was given remedies in my anti-natal care that did not require injections this time round looking back it was the happiest confinement with the nuns who looked after me in St Joseph ward and then in Bethlehem where my son was born. I remember visiting the Church in thanksgiving 24hrs later as the birth was difficult and at one point they thought they lost me as they were preparing for a breach birth and they had to use forcepts I can honestly say that if God called me home at that time I was surrounded by so much love and will be forever grateful. I was also struck by the gifts of Mother’s Day cards which we received from our babies and the tea and toast enjoyed by my husband and myself after Ryan Patrick made his appearance.
