A review of St Francis Nursing Home by Kathleen Connelly Hoverter written on Friday 31st of August 2018
My mother was 41 in 1948 when I was born at St. Francis Nursing Home in Govan. I was delivered by the great Dr. Francis O'Reilly. My mum always spoke about the wonderful care she received by the nursing staff there. When I was going home, apparently I was carried out to the taxi wrapped up in Sister's apron because it was raining! Coincidentally, my middle name is Frances, I was born at St. Francis Nursing Home and delivered by Dr. Francis O'Reilly on the feast of the Stigmata of St. Francis, and then I went to the Franciscan Convent School in Bothwell and was then taught by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception at Elmwood Senior Secondary in Bothwell. Nine weeks later, I contracted pneumonia. We lived in Cambuslang, and my mum and dad told me that they phoned Dr. O'Reilly, who then rode his bicycle to our house in his pyjamas. He administered the newly manufactured penicillin to me, and then he and my family said the rosary for me. I owe my life to the good Sisters and to Dr. O'Reilly, whose deep faith and great compassion impacted the lives of so many..
