A review of London Road Primary School by Mr Hugh Scott written on Saturday 10th of November 2007
Looked in this site as a matter of curiosity. I attended London Road school from 1943 until 1949.
The teachers names who come to mind are Miss Pate,
Miss Neilson,Miss Mckenzie and Miss Robertson.
The shed at the top of the boys playground was the air raid shelter. If there had been an air raid the
previous night one didn't need to come to school until dinner time. Boys settled their differences
with fist fights at the back of the school on the land between the school and celtic park.
Bernards street school dinner school was built on the land to the east of the school.
Discipline was very strict with widespread use of the strap.
Some classmate names : Alfie Fairweather,Joe Mann,
John Fleming,Andy Ritchie,Willie Stone,Ann Harwood
Maryln Neilson : where are they now ?? I sometimes wonder
.
