"Long hair? Only one style available, whatever you ask for"

I've been a fan of the Rainbow Room for about 10 years and was always happy with any stylist I got although I tend to go to senior staff and artistic directors (or whatever they call themselves, they expensive ones!) Recently though I've found that whoever I go to, if you have long hair there's only one hairstyle they will give you - layers around the neck / shoulder level then a longer section with no layers, and then some layers at the ends of your hair. I know a lot of people with straightened, shoulder length hair like this style but it doesn't suit me. My hair length is halfway down my back so you end up looking like you have two haircuts on the one head. Even when I've told them that I'm trying to grow out the shorter layers at neck/shoulder level they just cut them back in. I've also found that the stylists insist on dragging the scissors through your hair when shaping the front section, even though they know this causes split ends when you have long hair. So basically I'd say that the stylists I've been to recently only seem comfortable cutting long hair in one particular style and don't care what you ask for. I'm looking for a new salon..
