A review of The Merchant Pride by Peter Lynch written on Saturday 1st of December 2007
I have heard for some time about the comments made regarding the Candle Bar, it’s staff and entertainment, and I have finally wasted several minutes reading through the bile and vitriol posted here. I am struck be the number of different people who go out drinking, decide that they didn’t enjoy themselves so decide to go onto the web looking to see if there is a site where they can vent their spleen. Believe me, I had had enough crap nights to know it isn’t worth complaining, you learn by your mistakes and try somewhere else: it looks to me like one, maybe two people are posting under different aliases, I base this partly on the poor levels of spelling and grammar.
Firstly, I think that Barbara Bryceland is a great singer and a great entertainer and I always enjoy listening to her.
Secondly, Robert and May have raised countless HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of pounds for many charities through their singing, not one person was press ganged into buying a ticket, putting money in a bucket or donating to a raffle. In the years I have known them and listened to them they have entertained many thousands of Glaswegians, and most of them came back time and time again to listen. If the critic (s) know anything about music they would recognise that Robert is a fine singer, an accomplished songwriter and a recognised talented musician. May Miller has a vocal range and a quality of voice that anyone would envy.
Why the criticism? Why obviously listen to them time and time again yet take pleasure in badmouthing their efforts? It is done to create hurt and offence and pleasure is obviously taken from that, it must be galling that you cannot take the credit you feel you deserve because you don’t have the courage to say in public what you write in secret. You are the type of person who spies from behind the curtains and reports your neighbours for putting their bin out on the wrong day; the type of person complains to everyone at the bus stop about the state of the world but won't speak up to anyone who might change anything.
Some are undoubtedly angered by your comments but I can honestly just feel pity for such a sad lonely individual.
