A review of The Giffnock Ivy by Colin Prentice written on Monday 6th of October 2008
Took parents for their ruby wedding. Nice ambience, greeted well by waiters and seated quickly.
Looked at the menu and the 1 item that stuck out like a sore thumb was £24 for a fillet steak which only came with dauphinoise tatties....NOW, I know the economy is not great however I don't care who you are, you don't pay that for a piece of meat unless it has been personally massaged! When I called the manager to feedback the next day I was told that they only make £2 per steak, surely you need to look at your suppliers because I didn't taste anything different from a £18-19 steak and when you don't have the option of vegetables with it this is way too costly.
My wife had the herb rissoto which she said lacked taste and the rice was a bit crunchy.
We didn't want to complain on the night as it was a special evening for my parents, hence the reason I called the next day, however we will not be rushing back unless there is a big change in the price of a few of their items..
