A review of Princess Royal Maternity Hospital by Jo written on Monday 8th of December 2008
I gave birth to my daughter on August 19th 2008 at the PRM and had a wonderful experience. The only plan I had going in was to give birth in the midwives' birthing unit if at all possible. I ended up giving birth in the birthing pool! From the time I went from assessment to the post-natal ward my midwife was by my side. I found this an immense comfort having heard very sad stories about poor care from friends in the English system. We are VERY lucky with the care we have up here and we should be thankful for it.
After I gave birth I was in the hospital for two nights. During that time I had great support from the midwives on the ward. I was able to see a breastfeeding counsellor as I was having trouble breastfeeding at first. The quality of care continued after I left the hospital.
My one complaint is about the food. It's very poor for a system that encourages breastfeeding as strongly as ours. Breastfeeding mothers require more nutrition than I felt we were provided in the hospital. But that's my only complaint..
