Important Notice

This statement is issued to explain the circumstances and clarify the situation regarding Capri Skies.

It is with deep and sincere regret that the owner of Capri Skies has been forced to close the stores in Glasgow and Ayr.

On Friday there was unfounded media speculation regarding the future of the stores and as the normal day-to-day business is conducted by store management, the owner was not aware of the problem and subsequent closure until late on Friday evening.

The closure was unfortunately essential to protect customers, staff and the premises from extreme threatening behaviour that is currently under investigation by Strathclyde Police. Unfortunately the nature of the bridal business during the current financial climate is such that the resulting internet speculation and media coverage have made it impossible to remain open.

Capri Skies was not instructed or compelled to close by any official source other than the police, who strongly advised this course of action for the protection of both staff and public.

Contrary to incorrect speculation that the owner removed customer dresses from the store, the majority of sample gowns on display were from one specific brand. As these were the legal property of that company, they were removed by their sales agent on Friday evening, prior to the owner being made aware of these events.

The owner of Capri Skies is very aware of the time sensitive nature of the business and is attempting, in very difficult circumstances, to negotiate a satisfactory outcome.

There are a substantial number of completed customer orders awaiting collection, but following a series of extremely violent personal threats, it has not been possible for anyone to enter the premises safely to begin the extensive logistical operation to access and distribute these customer dresses.

Outstanding orders have been placed with the relevant suppliers and therefore should either be ‘in production’ or completed and warehoused, pending delivery.

Capri Skies was still trading effectively on Friday 29th May and all orders were taken in good faith with the firm belief that they would be fulfilled. All business costs were similarly being met normally but regrettably, following Friday’s TV news report, Capri Skies’ was forced to close.

To aid clarity, and to avoid any further disorder at either of the store locations, all further information will be posted on the Capri Skies website and various other media sources.

To minimise any further disruption to surrounding businesses, no representative or spokesperson will be present at either location.
