A review of Hillfoot Cafe by Calum written on Monday 17th of August 2009
Having waited for my ancient "pals" to respond to my earlier post, which none has done (probably not computer literate - they are all so old now)I feel the urge to add to what I said last year - what else has an old man to do to occupy his time?
Vincent, the original owner, was a gem! Apart from having the world's best recipe for ice cream, which I suspect is still in use today, he was tolerant of teenagers who had little money and allowed us to sit for hours over a single cup of coffee, during which time we solved all of the problems of the world, in theory. When, later, we came home on leave from our National Service in the army (I don't think many of us went into the airforce or navy)he always offered a cigar with which we could celebrate the event.
Go there and check out the ice cream. If it is not the best you have ever tasted, they have changed the recipe..
