A review of Mr India by Rob Devlin written on Friday 21st of August 2009
Discovered this unassuming place quite a few years ago now, and despite having tried many other curry houses in Glasgow I always end up back there. The dishes are of a consistently high standard, and the food is at least on a par with any of the better known establishments, and indeed on the whole outshines virtually all of them. Many dishes have a freshly prepared taste that help to distinguish them from the fare of so many other places. There are few specialities that especially stand out but even the more standard popular dishes such as Rogan Josh or Tikka Masala are light and fresh tasting. The ever popular pakora is always crisp and light, the accompanying sauces are excellent, and distinctively different from elsewhere.
The staff are always friendly and helpful but don't pester you, and it is very reasonably priced and easy to park near in the evening. If you live nearby you won't find a better takeaway either! The downside for the resaraunt I guess is it is smaller than many other competitors and a couple of streets away from Byres road and thus missed by much of the potential trade. The plus side for us is that it is often easier to get a table there than in many larger restaraunts. If you eat in the west end and fancy a curry then give this place a try, you really won't be disappointed by this hidden gem. As previously noted, better wheelchair access would be a good move if possible..
