A review of St James (Pollok) Parish Church by Robert written on Tuesday 29th of June 2010
St james church 1953-present day, My church was built in 1953 and almost all materials where originally from the Titwood parish church in Glancairn Drive Pollokshields, The stones where all numbered carefully to ensure the rebuild was as close to the original as possible.
My parents and their immediate family where married at St James, I followed in their footsteps but unfortunately my marriage was not to last. I recently decided after 11 years of courting to again marry and although not a regular attender at st james it has a special magical place in my heart,I am getting married in Pollokshields burgh halls (a place that caught my imagination the first time I set eyes on it)It had a magical attraction that I could not understand, After Doing a little on line research I was amazed to discover the same architect built The original titwood church (now pollok St James)and the pollokshields burgh halls, The original church was a stone throw away from the burgh halls.
Not been a regular church attender I find the bond and feelings for st james quite remarkable and to then feel drawn to pollokshields burgh halls on my first visit there makes me feel there is a connection and I look forward to my wedding there, Dr Mann of St James church pollok is doing the serice and although not within my church it will certainly feel as close to it as possible without actually being there.
