A review of Carbeth Inn by Thomas written on Friday 4th of March 2011
I can remember going to the Carbeth over 30 years ago, it was bustling then - with Scouts 'kerchiefs' hanging all around the place and many Scouts and Bikers hanging around the place too.
Then about 20 years ago it changed and the place took a dip.
About 15 or so years ago, we used to drive out to find it open, closed, open, closed and more often or not, closed - as the owners at the time couldn't care less.
Then came Graham, he was the pefect 'mine host' and he really changed the place. It was warm, friendly and welcoming. Sadly over the course of time, it began to go down hill, the food wasn't so good and the place could have done with being cleaned.
Tonight, Frid 4 March we visited and found it was under new management. It was dirtier than ever before and there was a real menacing atmosphere. It was so different, designed for the serious drinker, designed for the Biker, Hutter, Walker and the 'family friendly' atmosphere has sadly gone.
No welcome from the staff on entry, not too many customers and it was hard to tell who were staff and who were customers.
Sadly, not good omen or an inspiration to return..
