A review of Woodland Herbs by Birte written on Thursday 10th of March 2011
Slowly but surely I am anticipating the birth of my first child (I’d better say our first child, in case my husband will read this). I am now 39 weeks pregnant but have started to look into things to do on my maternity leave in January. As most mums to be, I am sure, we look forward to time of work and treating ourselves to as much chocolate and Ben and Jerry’s as we want. In addition to eat my own belly weight in ice-cream I also wanted to look into treatments which could possible help me to relax and treat some of the aches and pains during late pregnancy so I ended up researching massages during pregnancy; and ended up really fed up, as the information saturated source of this wonderful thing called internet had me confused – there were so many sites advising to stay away from massages during pregnancy especially the ones including aromatherapy, yet you are told to massage your belly, boobs and even the perinea to avoid stretch marks and labour tears, so why would a decent massage not benefit your and your baby’s well-being? Having been rather relaxed about many pregnancy myths and warnings I went ahead to book a course of 6 pregnancy massages with Anna at the Woodland Herbs Therapy centre in the West End. I must add that I am very tall 6 foot 1 to be precise and always had back problems, which have been accentuated during pregnancy. I have heard of Woodland Herbs before but was not aware that they had a pregnancy massage therapist who also was trained to include aromatherapy in her massage, such as Lavender and Clary Sage. I arrived at my first session and was led into a cosy room which had a big futon lying on the floor and loads of pillows. I discussed my back issues with Anna and a few other concerns I had. Anna took notes and started a file for me, which was very reassuring as I felt that I was being properly looked after and treated, rather than another customer in a Beauty Therapist Salon. I got ready and lay down sideways cushioning my bump, head and everything else to make me comfortable and this really put me at ease and relaxed.
I must say, my first session was quite painful, but painful in a good ‘I am going to feel better afterwards’ way, which was exactly the case. Every subsequent session was the highlight of my week and at my last one this Wednesday I can honestly say that I have seen a massive difference in my back pains. I also believe that the weekly massages have aided my muscles to be more prepared for labour. I would recommend Anna without hesitation, she is really good at what she does and interested in your well-being, which is felt when she is working on you..
