"ASDA aces - advice to would be job applicants"

A review of City Facilities Management (UK) Ltd by Ex ASDA ace written on Sunday 22nd of May 2011

A while ago, I worked for City Facilities Management, as an ASDA ace. I would like to ffer this advice to anyone considering working for CFM.

Ask how many bank holidays you will be expected to work, also enquire if they deduct days from your holiday entitlement, if the store is closed on Easter Sunday and Christmas day. - I "lost" two days of my holidays in this way !!

Enquire about extra payment for working nightshift, for instance, when shopfitting work etc, is taking place, aces can be offered night work.

ASDA have regular cleaning audits, also, "perfect days" when the entire store is, well, perfect, all yellow lines etc re-painted and the whole store is cleaned like a new pin.

In these circumstances, aces are sometimes drafted in from other ASDA stores to help with cleaning. Find out if you DO work at another store, what travel expenses they repay, or what arrangements they make for you to go there. - I volunteered and regretted it, as I only worked three hours, and never got any Diesel expenses refunded, which actually cost me around £7 i.e around half of my three hours earnings. However, sometimes, your cleaning supervisor / manager may be able to take you there.

Being an ASDA ace can be a satisfying job, but it's hard work, every task is more or less done to a time allocation, sometimes with a sheet or book to fill in and sign at regular intervals to say the work has been done, - if you start running late on a task, for instance after clearing a customers spillage or dealing with a blocked customer toilet, it can be stressful making up the lost time, while still maintaining a good standard of cleanliness.

During the time I worked for City, to their credit, they did pay wages on time, unlike some firms I've worked for. .
